San Diego Trolley The San Diego Trolley system, known for its distinctive red color, covers downtown San Diego south to the border with Mexico and east to Santee. There are two eastern routes, the Orange Line which goes through the eastern areas of the city of San Diego and then to Lemon Grove; and the Green Line through Mission Valley, with stops at Fashion Valley Mall (San Diego’s largest mall); Qualcomm Stadium (home of the National Football League’s San Diego Chargers, the San Diego State University Aztecs, and the NCAA Poinsettia Bowl and Holiday Bowl); San Diego State University (the California State University System’s largest university campus with an enrollment of about 37,000); La Mesa, the “Jewel of the Hills,” and El Cajon, before ending at Santee. The Blue Line goes from Old Town through downtown San Diego, with a stop across from Petco Park, home of Major League Baseball’s San Diego Padres, and then to the Mexico border at San Ysidro. At the downtown America Plaza station (which is under San Diego’s tallest building, at 500 feet tall), one can walk across the street and catch Amtrak to Los Angeles and points north and east, or a Coaster up to Oceanside where one can connect with the Sprinter to Escondido or the Metrolink to Los Angeles.
